The mission of the Shambhala Meditation Center of Atlanta is to offer meditation practice as a path to discovering the gentleness, fearlessness, and intelligence inherent in every human being, and to build a community based on human goodness and dignity.
Mindfulness/Awareness Meditation Practice
helps us understand
how we can relax and be who we truly are.
Shambhala Buddhism follows a well-defined graduated method of practice and study based on Tibetan buddhism as taught in the West by Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche and the Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche. The path places emphasis on joining the view and practice of buddhism with everyday life. The sequence of programs and classes ensures that students can develop according to their own interest and commitments.
Shambhala Training begins with a series of five contemplative workshops (Levels I-V) based on the premise that basic human wisdom exists in all of us. When uncovered and cultivated through meditation practice it enables us to live our lives genuinely, in harmony with ourselves and others. This wisdom has manifested in many cultures historically and does not belong to any particular culture or religion.
Shambhala Contemplative Arts is the umbrella for a number of secular disciplines and activities, takes its name from an 11th century Indian university that welcomed teachings and disciplines from many different traditions. Nalanda activities, roughly grouped into the four categories of arts, health, education and business, include many specific disciplines each of which offers a genuine contemplative path.
